James Jimas

March 28, 1945 — July 9, 2019

Our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, coach, and friend, peacefully passed on July 9, 2019. This loving man will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Jim was born March 28, 1945 in Bingham Canyon, Utah to Bob and Marion Jimas. He married Mary Ann David August 23, 1969.

He graduated from Bingham High School and Brigham Young University where he starred as a basketball player and was a member of the 1966 NIT championship team. He was all-WAC his senior year.

One of Jim’s greatest joys was coaching high school basketball for 25 years. He coached Hillcrest to the 1980 4A state championship and Brighton to the 1996 5A state championship. He loved all his players and had a tremendous impact on their lives. Many players said “Coach Jimas will be in our hearts forever.”

Jim’s greatest love was for his family, especially for his wife Mary. Jim and Mary have three children and fourteen grandchildren. Jim is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Libby (John) Liljenquist; Jena (Ryan) Anderson; Jared (Becca) Jimas; grandchildren, Tayler, Abby, Olivia, Emily, Jake, Spencer, Claire, Trevor, Bella, Noah, Lincoln, Kamdyn, Charlotte, and Braxtyn; sister’s Nikkie Miller and Barbara Peterson. He was preceded in death by his brother, Steve Jimas and parents Bob and Marion Jimas.

Jim is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in numerous callings including Sunday School President, High Priest Group leader and Bishopric counselor.  Jim and Mary were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on June 21, 2005.
