James Ferebee Dixon

August 24, 1930 — October 6, 2017

James F. Dixon, 87, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died October 6, 2017 from complications of a myriad of maladies. He was born August 24, 1930 in Richland Center, Wisconsin to James Hall Dixon and Nellie Elizabeth Ferebee. Jim grew up in Wisconsin Dells (The Dells), and loved to reminisce of growing up in a tourist town, being a lifeguard and working at his Uncle Fred’s hotel, Multnomah Lodge. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison with a Bachelor of Science in Geography. He met Jeannine at the University and they married three years later. He worked at the Carnation Company but spent the greatest portion of his career as a cartographer for the US Forest Service. He was the rock of his family and was totally devoted to them. He loved woodworking and created many beautiful items for his family to cherish, and carved ornaments for others to enjoy at the Festival of Trees. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed trivial pursuits and more, with his friends at Highland Cove. He is survived by his daughters Ellen M.Dixon and Lisa (Tim) Holmes, his granddaughters Leah and Tara Holmes, Sarita Carey, great-granddaughter Azalea Jeannine Batalla, his sister Elizabeth Dixon Smith (Reg) and loving cousins, nephews and nieces. James was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Jeannine Scheibel Dixon, brother John T. Dixon II and nephew John T. Dixon III. He will be grievously missed by his loving family. A viewing and short memorial services will be observed Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Memorial Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East, Murray, Utah.
