James Edwin Burbank

James Edwin Burbank (Ted) passed away on May 11, 2018 at 11:10 am from natural causes in Murray, Utah. Ted was born on July 6, 1920 to Percy Loveland Burbank and Elsie Yates Burbank in Deweyville, Utah. He had 3 brothers and 2 sisters; Wayne, Bob, Betty, Joyce and Boyd. He grew up during the great Depression and spent a lot of time on his grandfather’s farm milking Holstein cows, tromping loose hay and other physically demanding jobs. Ted loved dancing, and while dancing at the Coconut Grove in Salt Lake City, he met and fell in love with Annie Caroline Macklin. Nearly 2 years later and many dances they were married in Magna, Utah on November 5, 1941. Ted and Annie were recently sealed for time and all eternity in the Jordan River Temple. Ted worked at Kennecott Copper mine. He hadn’t been employed long when he was involved in an accidental dynamite explosion at the mine. One of his legs suffered major damage and doctors wanted to amputate it, but Annie insisted that they save it. It was saved, and Ted was able to dance his whole life. Ted retired from Kennecott Copper mine after 37 years of services. He worked as a Core Maker, Truck Driver and Plumber at the mine.
Ted and Annie had four children; Carol Ann Bennett, Sherrie Lee Dickey, Jim Burbank and Dennis Burbank (who recently passed). After 35 years of marriage, Ted and Annie divorced.
Ted continued dancing. One day while dancing at the Rendezvous Dance Hall, he met a lady that loved dancing as much as he did. Wouldn’t you know it, her name was also Ann. Not too long after they met, Ted married Ann Geneva Jaggi on June 26, 1983. Their life was one of travel and dance. They enjoyed the warm weather of Yuma, AZ during the wintertime and the summers in Murray, UT. Ted inherited 5 stepchildren with Ann; Dennis, Deanna, Patty, Paul and Tony. Ann passed away on April 20, 2012. This was very difficult for Ted to lose his dance partner of nearly 30 years. They danced up until a few weeks of her passing.
Since Ann’s death in 2012, Ted continued dancing and staying active at Senior centers in the Salt Lake Valley, going to as many as he could. He also loved to play the harmonica and organ and crafted one of a kind and unique three dimensional art pieces.
Ted was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He loved staying active and doing many things. He even had the opportunity in his 80’s to go on a Latter-Day Saint pioneer “trek” experience where he would walk on the same paths and roads as the early pioneers did in 1847.
We will miss the energy and vitality and spirit of Ted Burbank. We love you Ted!
Services will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 10am at an Latter-Day Saints chapel in Draper, UT (607 E Rocky Mouth Lane). A viewing will be held both Friday night, May 18th from 6-8pm, and just prior to funeral on Saturday from 9:00am-9:45am at the Draper LDS chapel mentioned above.
Interment service will be held at Memorial Redwood Cemetery (6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, UT 84123).
