James Deaton

January 5, 1950 — July 30, 2014

James Que Deaton, a kind and loving soul—beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to so many—passed away peacefully at his home in Salt Lake City on Wednesday July 30, 2014. His passing allows him to be reunited with his wife, Christy, and his mother Shirley, who preceded him in death.
Jimmy was born in Salina, Utah on Jan 5, 1950, the son of James L. and Shirley Mae Deaton. He graduated from Carbon High School, and attended the College of Eastern Utah. He made his living working in the coal mining industry and with the UDOT in various roles and positions. He made connections easily and, over the years, gained many friends and people who will remember his kind, humble, outgoing ways.
During his life Jimmy affiliated with several Christian denominations, including the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served an LDS mission to Arizona.
Jimmy always had a good word, a warm smile, a cheerful thought, a silly joke or two and a sincere handshake for everyone he met or associated with. Many, many people will feel the loss of this gentle man.
He is survived by his father James L., brothers and sisters-in-law, Dennis and Susan (Spencer), Gary and Teresa (McArthur), Kelly and Sandra (Jarnagin), and his sister Jalee and brother-in-law, Mark Harris, along with many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Monday August 4 at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery 3115 East 7800 South (Bengal Blvd.) in Salt Lake City, at 11:00 am. A gathering and visitation will precede the services at 10:00 am in the Mountain View Memorial Chapel.
