Jacob “Jake” Pando

October 17, 1923 — August 13, 2016

Jacob (Jake) Pando, our beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather passed away on August 13, 2016 at the VA Nursing Home, surrounded by his loving family. Jacob (Jake) Pando was born on October 17, 1923 in Cleveland, New Mexico to Demetrio and Genoveva Trujillo Pando. As a young man Jake worked for the (CCC) Civilian Conservation Corporation. Jake married his beloved wife of 72 years, Eulalia Romero, January 31, 1944. Jake served in the U.S. Army with the 35th Infantry Division during WW II in Belgium, Luxemburg, France and Germany. Jake also saw combat at the Battle of the Bulge. After the war Jake returned to the USA on the Queen Mary. Jake was a very proud Veteran. Jake worked at Kennecott Copper at the Bingham Copper Mine. He retired as an Electrician after nearly 40 years of Service. Jake is survived by his wife and 4 sons: Jake L Pando (Lynda), Boise, Idaho, Floyd D Pando (Sherrie) West Jordan, Utah, Gerald O Pando (Sandra) Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Kenneth Pando (Roseann) Hayward, California, and two sisters and four brothers. Jake is also survived by 10 grandsons, three granddaughters, seven great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Josie Jolley whom he adored, three sisters, three brothers, as well as grandsons, Jacob Michael Pando and Brett Steven Pando. In 1964 Jake was very instrumental in the building of the First St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. In 1972 Jake served on the first Citizen Steering Committee in the City of West Jordan, formed by the City Counsel for the creation of a master plan for the City. The family would like to thank the staff at the Salt Lake Veterans Nursing Home and Bristol Hospice for the loving care that they provided Jacob. Special thanks to Nurse Celeste. A viewing will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2016, 5:30 PM with a Vigil/Rosary at 7:30 PM at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 19, 2016, 11:00 AM with a viewing one hour prior at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church 7405 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Redwood Memorial Mortuary.
