Jackie Lewis Day

August 13, 1931 — September 3, 2018

“As the sun set on the Arizona desert sky a great man looked for his sweetheart. He called out to his love and he waited for her to call back, but she was nowhere to be found. He made camp for the night and struck a fire to keep warm and to use as a beacon for her to find him in the morn.
In the early hours, just before light, his sweetheart found her love quietly asleep next to the fire. She took his hand and bid him to come home and the darkest of nights was gone. Three boys went to find him and saw him sitting there by the campfire. Heartbroken, they knew he was gone but that he had finally found his sweetheart and their forever.”
On September 3, 2018 Jackie Lewis Day, surrounded by his family, lost his battle to leukemia.
Jack was born to Lewis and Robbie Day on August 13,1931 in the Ozark mountains of Jasper Arkansas. He loved hunting, fishing, camping and writing. Jack was funny, witty and friendly. No matter how long it had been since he had seen you he would remember something you had said and ask about it. Always willing to lend a hand to those in need. He met the love of his life, Peggy Wycherly, in Sunnyside, UT when she decided to run him off the road. They married on May 8, 1954 and she remained by his side until she returned to her Heavenly Father. Jack and Peggy raised 3 boys together, Doug, Dave and Kevin. Jack taught them love of the outdoor mountain life and how to be strong, caring men. Around 2008 Jack met Reba, who had also lost the love of her life. They spent the next decade creating new adventures together and taking care of each other. Jack had several careers throughout his life. Serving his country as a civil servant at Hill Air Force Base, driving a charter bus and being a campground host.
Feelings and memories of Jack can be found in the faces of the legacy he left behind. His children, Douglas (Kaydeen) Day, David (Auri) Day, Kevin (Kym) Day. His Grandchildren, Krystal (Doug) Rineck, Clarissa (Tyson) Franc, Jackson Day, Samantha (Andrew) Schiess, Vivian Day. His great Grandchildren, Tegan Franc, Broden Franc, Easton Franc, Tucker Schiess, Mason Schiess, Garrett Schiess. His great grandpups, Monkey Rineck, Louie Rineck. His partner and best friend, Reba J. Sharp. A special Thank You and our deepest love and gratitude to Jessie, Chad and Elaine for being there and helping Jack in his last days, caring for him, taking him to his medical appointments and keeping him laughing, we are forever grateful to you. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Lynn Wycherly Day, father Lewis Day, mother Robbie Harrison and sisters, Betty Hill and Jewell Thorngren.
With the loss of this great man we find the roots of who we are go deeper into our souls. He was the patriarch of all, we love and honor him for showing us how a real man is there not only for his family and friends, but also for acquaintances and strangers.
