Jack Vaughn Daniels, age 87, passed away on December 21, 2017. He was born on March 27, 1930 in Provo, Utah to William Daniels and Rachel Elizabeth Smith, the youngest of their eight children.
On February 13, 1951 Jack was drafted into the U.S. Army and completed his basic training at Fort Jackson in South Carolina. Following basic training he was shipped to the Far East Command in Japan and trained at the Etajima Specialist School for Auto Repair SPEC. Following his training, he was sent to Korea with the 101st Signal Battalion as part of the Korean War. During his time in Korea, Jack volunteered to be part of a six-man relay team in the mountains along the 38th parallel looking down on the front line. His team was responsible for establishing and maintaining the relay towers to ensure open communication between the allied units. During his service in Korea he received a Meritorious Unit Citation and Most Significant Duty Assignment – R&M 101st Signal Battalion. Jack also received the Korean Service Award with 2 Bronze Stars.

From 1961 – 1991 Jack worked for Hercules, Inc as a project engineer including working on a $17 million graphite fibre line and designing/supervising the construction of a fluorine transfer facility. Following his retirement from Hercules he found he couldn’t just sit at home and went to work for Nate Wade Subaru in 1993. Jack worked off and on for Nate Wade from 1993 to 2015, he always said it was to make sure he had fishing money but this proved to be his favorite job and he really enjoyed the people he worked with.
Among Jack’s hobbies were the aforementioned fishing, hunting with his sons (with no intent of harvesting), teasing his wife and children, woodworking, and watching history/science documentaries. By far, his favorite was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Whether watching TV or spending time in the outdoors, he just liked being with them.
