Jack Green

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, leader and friend joined his loved ones on the other side of the veil on Sunday, April 13, 2014, after a long battle with cancer that left his body ravaged, but his spirit true and faithful. His courage, strength, compassion and goodness are only a few of his virtues that will remain as examples in our hearts forever. Jack was born August 12, 1936 in Huntington, Utah, the oldest child born to Edward LaVar Green and Annie June Atkinson Green. Jack was a leader all his years, serving as the president of his high school class of 1954 and later as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Ohio Great Lakes Mission. He married his beautiful sweetheart, Carolee Rae Curtis on September 1, 1960 in the Salt Lake Temple and they are the parents of seven children. Jack served in many church callings, beginning with a bishopric calling when he was still in his 20’s. He later served as the branch president and bishop of the Sterling Park Ward in Virginia and a counselor and then the president of the Bennion Utah East stake, in addition to many other callings in the church. In his most recent years he served as a temple worker in the Jordan River Temple, one of his most treasured callings. In addition to church work, Jack served the community with love and compassion, from PTA president at his children’s school in Virginia to a member of the Board of Directors for Intermountain Health Care to years of service with the city of Taylorsville. Professionally, he worked for the United States Forest Service, The General Accounting Office, Harmon’s grocery stores, and he retired from Utah State Government, serving with the Division of Child and Family Services. Most men would be overwhelmed with such a long list of formal responsibilities, but Jack made time to garden an acre of precious land, harvest and preserve the fruits and vegetables he grew, always trying new, delicious recipes with his friends and family. He loved God’s great earth, and he especially loved finding beautiful rocks and gems, polishing and setting them in hand-crafted silver settings. Jack delighted in making jewelry and giving these beautiful treasures to those he loved. Jack is survived by his sweetheart, Carolee, four daughters, Cathryn (Vandal), Julie (Shawn), Cherilyn (Tyler), and Christyn (Jesse), three sons, David, Michael, and Steven, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his brothers Ray (Linda) and Mike (Sandra), his sisters Jean (Don) and Eva (Marlin), and many friends and neighbors. His family expresses gratitude for the tremendous outpouring of love shown Jack throughout these months of illness by friends and family alike. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, April 18th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building located at 1327 West 5550 South in Taylorsville, Utah. Internment will be after the service at Mountain View Memorial Mortuary and Cemetery located at 3115 East 7800 South in Cottonwood Heights. A viewing open to the public will be held at the mortuary on Thursday, April 17, from 7-9 p.m and again before the funeral at the LDS ward building, from 10-11 a.m.
