Ivy Arlene Mayfield

April 14, 1926 — September 20, 2016

Ivy Arlene Mayfield
South Jordan, Utah – Our sweetheart, mother, grandmother, great grandmother Ivy slipped away September 20, 2016 while surrounded at home by her loving family. Ivy was born April 14, 1926 to Ivan Arthur and Paula Elizabeth Keeler. Ivy married the love of her life, William Marion Mayfield on April 2, 1945. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple, January 13, 1956. They spent 28 loving years together before William left this world in 1984. Ivy was a proud and active member of the LDS Church. Ivy grew up as a child during the Great Depression and World War II. She began working at the age of seventeen for the Pullman Train Car Company to help support her family in 1943 when her father unexpectedly passed away. The railway yard is where she met her sweetheart William, who worked for the Denver and Rio Grande Rail Road.
Ivy was the most unselfish, kind and caring person that we could be blessed to know. She always cared and worried about everyone except herself. She never had a bad word to speak of anyone, and always saw the best in everyone she knew.
Ivy’s grandchildren and great grandchildren were the lights of her life. She always wanted to be surrounded by her family.
Ivy graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City in 1944. After her children were raised she worked for the State of Utah as a medical claims representative.
Ivy is survived by her loving children, Michael (Karen) Mayfield, Matthew (Mary) Mayfield, Peggy Mayfield-Boulter, daughter-in-law MaryAnn Mayfield, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband William, and son Patrick Arthur Mayfield.
Ivy’s family sends a special thank you to her care givers; Whitney Christenson, Diane Simunetti, Melanie Thomas, and all the aids and nurses who cared for her from Brighton Home and Health.
