Ivan LeRoy Thurman (89) passed away peacefully on November 26, 2015 in Salt Lake City.
Ivan was born in Blackfoot, Idaho on September 17, 1926. He was the youngest of 10 children born to Charles Alvin Thurman and Zilpha Ann Lowder Thurman. He joined the army at 18 and saw the end of World War II. He spent time in the Philippines and Korea.
When he returned from the war, he married Marjean Bowler and they had three children, Kenneth, Dean and Connie. They were later divorced. He married Dolores France in January of 1958. Dolores had two children from a prior marriage (Dennis and Randy Baker) and Ivan and Dolores had two children together, Debbie and Wayne.
Ivan was a life-long member of the LDS church. He was a hard worker and worked many jobs to support his family. He worked as a mechanic, delivered linen and milk. He worked as a church custodian for 20 plus years. He found pleasure in making sure the building was clean and ready for church events. He continued to work full time until he was well into his 80’s. He and Dolores enjoyed driving across the country pulling the pop up trailer to visit family and see the sights of America.
Ivan loved his family and valued his children equally. Ivan is preceded in death by his son Kenneth Thurman, daughter-in-law Valerie Baker, daughter-in-law Karen Thurman, parents and eight of his siblings. Ivan is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dolores; a daughter-in-law Barbara Thurman; his children Dean and Connie (Roger) ; step-sons Dennis Baker and Randy (Ronalee) Baker; and their children Debrah and Wayne, ten grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren, brother Newel, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM Tuesday, December 1st at the Midvale 3rd Ward Chapel, 7825 South Olympus Street, Midvale. A viewing will be held prior beginning at 11:30AM at the church. Interment will be at Redwood Memorial Mortuary following the service.
