Ivan Albert Welker

Ivan Albert Welker passed away peacefully on October 26, 2017 at the Southern Utah Veterans Home in Ivins, Utah at age 87.  He was born at home in Logan, Utah to Adella Harrison and Charles Wesley Welker on July 31, 1930.  He grew up and attended schools in Logan, Providence and Hyrum, Utah.  He was married to LaMay Rindlishbacher (divorced) and Leragrace “Lee” Kjargaard (divorced).  In 1967 he met and married Isolde Fiedel; they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1968.  They shared 33 years together until her death in 2000.  Ivan enlisted in the Army Air Corp on his 17th birthday, and served a total of eight years, including crash rescue and firefighting duties in Guam and Panama.  After the war he was reassigned to Moses Lake AFB in Washington where his mission was to provide protection to the Hanford Atomic Plant.   After his discharge, he was employed at Tooele Army Depot, retiring with the position of Chief of Security Police after 37 years of Federal service. He was also a part-time barber, and had many hobbies including golfing and locksmithing.  Ivan was a member of the LDS Church, serving in many callings, including six years at the president of the Temple View Branch in Salt Lake City, which he felt was a great blessing to him and Isolde.  Following her death in 2000, he moved to St. George where he spent his remaining years and made many good friends, especially Florence Orlando, who passed away in December 2016.  Ivan is survived by his sons Alan, Bismarck, North Dakota; Brent (Iris), West Jordan; Robert, Blaine, Washington; Brian (Kathy), Aurora, Missouri; Danny Johnson, Albuquerque, New Mexico; a sister, Julia Pitkin (Jay), Bountiful, Utah; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a sister, Lorna Bornn, and five brothers: Loyal, Doaine, Garr, Lyle and George.  The funeral will be held Saturday, November 4th, at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Mountain View Mortuary, 3115 East Bengal Blvd., Cottonwood Heights, Utah. Viewings will be held Friday, November 3rd from 6 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary, and Saturday at 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral.  Burial will be at the Memorial Mountain View Cemetery. A Memorial Service to honor Ivan will be held at the Southern Utah Veterans Home, 160 N 200 E, Ivins, UT on Thursday, November 9, 2017 from 3:00 – 4:00 PM.
