Inga-Lill Irene Karlson

April 9, 1918 — March 19, 2016

Inga-Lill was born in Gothenburg, Sweden, on April 9th, 1918 and died on March 19th, 2016, 21 days short of her 98th birthday in SLC. She was the 6th of 7 children in the fun and loving home of Hilma Paulina Jonasson and Johan Erik Wallgren. She married Holger Lennart Karlson on January 30, 1943, in Sweden and was sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were blessed with two children: Monica and Lennart. In 1950, they immigrated to America.
As a teenager, she was baptized into the LDS Church. She served in the SL Swedish Branch for many years as a Relief Society teacher. She also served in the St. George LDS Temple for over 23 years.
Dad was a skilled metal worker with his own shop in Sweden. He loved structural steel and with partners in SLC, started Alpine Metal which became St. George Steel. They lived the American Dream!
They returned to Sweden on numerous occasions. All their grandchildren had the opportunity to visit their ancestral home.
Mom was loving, fun, and joyful. She had mastered the kitchen and enjoyed festive parties. She baked Swedish cinnamon rolls, made Swedish pancakes and meatballs. She celebrated Christmas with delicious Swedish food, decorations, and her Santa Claus collection. She embroidered, loved to read, and do genealogy. She enjoyed serving others and was an advocate for the underdog.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, her husband, and her son-in-law Frank Atkin, who called her “Mom!” She is survived by her daughter Monica (Frank) Atkin, her son Lennart (Susan), 4 grandchildren; Jared (Kellie) Karlson, LeeAnn (Danny) McPolin, Tyler (Nicole) Karlson, Jane (Shane) Plummer, and 12 Great grandchildren.
