Our sweet mother, Ila Marie Hawker Tucker, 89 returned to the waiting arms of her husband, H. David Tucker on June 5, 2015 in Alpine, Utah.
Ila was born August 18, 1925 in a rock home in Menan, Idaho to Albert & Amy Fullmer Hawker, the 6th of 7 children. Her father called her “Ila Marie, sweet as can be”. Ila loved school and loved to learn. She was valedictorian at her high school. It was there she met her husband. Their romance began when they were asked to play a piano duet for a seminary program. Over the years they continued to entertain family and friends with their duets.
Ila contracted polio shortly after high school. Upon recovery, she attended BYU. When David returned from his service in Europe during WWII, they were married in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Ila and Dave bought a home in what was then Granger, Utah where she lived for 52 years. She enjoyed fruit off of their many trees and was proud of her vegetable garden. Ila was a full time homemaker but supplemented their income by teaching piano lessons. She became a serious piano student herself later in life. She performed a solo piano recital at the SLC Library. It was a highlight of her career.
Ila was a faithful and devoted member of the LDS Church. She served diligently throughout her life primarily through music. She and David served an LDS Mission to the Los Angeles Temple Visitors Center. They served for 10 years in the Jordan River Temple. Ila continued there 5 years after David’s passing.
Ila and David had 7 children: Arnold, Marlene (Taisto), Richard (Vicki), Leanne (Jeff), Lola (Amedee), Ilene (Brent) Deanna (Chad).
Ila was preceded in death by her husband H. David Tucker, her daughter Lola Jean Sanchez, son- in-law, Taisto Petrell, and granddaughters Kelli Geigle and Ember Barton. Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 12th at 11:00 a.m. at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 So. Redwood Road. A viewing will be held prior to the services from 9-11:00. The family wishes to thank the staff at River Meadows Assisted Living and Symbii Hospice for the care they provided to Ila in her final months.
