Off on the Journey of a Lifetime
I embarked on the journey of a lifetime on April 8, 2014. I was born July 14, 1949 in Camden, New Jersey to Morris and Helen Bernstein Aronoff. I served in the Navy from 1968-1972. In 1971, while in the Navy, I joined the LDS Church and shortly after my discharge I served a mission in California.
I came to Salt Lake City in 1975 to continue my education. I graduated twice from LDS Business College, and later earned Bachelors and MBA degrees from the University of Phoenix. I also worked with Utah Transit Authority for over 15 years, where I had many unusual experiences that taught me so much.
During the 1980’s I got into the tax and accounting business, which I stayed with the rest of my life. I did a lot of different things, and my desire was when a client came into my office, they may not have been a friend, but was when they left.
I married Debra Twitchell on December 4, 1976, and we had a son, Andrew.
How faithful a church member I was will remain unknown while in this vale of tears. I did evolve. I will simply say that I carried my share of spears in my day. I especially loved my service as a veil worker in the Salt Lake Temple (1975-86), and as an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple (1999-2010). It was a rare and beautiful opportunity to give of myself.
I loved baseball, forever being a Democrat, reading, writing, classical music and carrying on a lifetime love affair with the English language. It enabled me to invent the most horrendous puns imaginable, and I loved dropping them anywhere. I was a stamp collector for about 53 years.
I was preceded on this journey by my father and step-father, David Segan, and beloved cats Ketzel, Carmen, Charcoal, Misty, and Mister Socks. Wishing me calm seas and a prosperous voyage is my mother and sister, my wife and son, my cat Betsy, and my most special friends, Alan and Anna Bradbury.
Those who know me know that I am a most private individual. Therefore, my request is there would be no formal funeral service. No flowers, please. If you want to remember me, make a donation to Best Friends or similar organization, so a pet can find a loving home. Then share a laugh with a friend, or tell a bad pun, the worse, the better.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 11 at 11:00 am at the Utah Veteran’s Cemetery, 17111 South Redwood Road. My friends are invited.
