Huch Aoki
1927-2018
Hachiro Paul Aoki passed away suddenly at age 91 on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2018, of causes incident to age. Huch was born August 9, 1927, the eighth of 11 children. He was a West High graduate. He married Barbara Okuda in 1954. They enjoyed 39 years together until Barbara’s death in 1993.
Huch was a hard worker and savvy businessman throughout his careers in farming and produce, propeller repair, all-terrain vehicle and snowmobile sales, the clothing industry, and commercial and industrial real estate. He served in the US Army 1951-53 in the Mountain and Cold Weather Training Command division.
Huch loved the outdoors and introduced his family to the joys of outdoor recreation. He taught his children at an early age to bike, swim, snow ski and water ski. The family spent a lifetime of happy summers with dear FAHBL friends at Bear Lake and winters skiing at Solitude, Alta and Park City.
He was a proud 100 percent participant in the Huntsman World Senior Games, competing annually for 32 years. His sports included golf, biking, trap shooting, duathlon and triathlon. He was inducted into the HWSG Hall of Fame in 2009.
Huch is survived by his children, Paula, dawn and Bruce (all SLC), grandsons Nick (SLC) and Isaac (Grand Rapids, MI), sister, Esther Kuratani (Torrance, CA), many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, brothers John, Jim, Tub, Sam, Dave and Mub (Joe), sisters Sets, Kaz and Hidei.
He lived a full and wonderful life and we are so grateful to have shared it with him.
Memorial service Sunday, December 2, 11 AM at Memorial Mountain View Mortuary, 3115 East 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights. Friends may gather an hour prior to service (10 AM).
