With respect, adoration and gratitude, family and friends remember and honor Hubert C Martin, Jr.
Son of Hubert Clay Martin, Sr. and Jennie Lee Bridges, Hubert was born April 12, 1935 in Marion, North Carolina. He was the brother of Mary Jane Johnson. He is survived by his wife Dixine Davis Martin and children, Michael (Nuchanaad), Mark (Cindi), Paul (Jana), Michelle (John), John (Shannon) and their families. Hubert and Dixine have 19 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Hubert grew up as an altar boy in an Episcopalian church prior to his conversion to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when he was sixteen years of age. Hubert’s father was a radio engineer who encouraged Hubert to follow his boyhood interest in electricity and electronics. This led him to earn a degree from the University of Utah in the field of Electrical Engineering. He continued to pursue electrical engineering professionally. His professional achievements were many and included designing the world’s smallest transformer. He produced multiple patents, ranging from rocket components to power supplies. His latest research involved solar energy and revolutionizing the world’s power grid.
Always a patriot, Hubert served his country in Army intelligence as a radio communicator. His interest in radios came from his father who was a pioneer in building the first communication station in his area. His father encouraged Hubert to follow in his footsteps, and became a licensed Ham radio operator. He was a member of Sons of Utah Pioneers and The Sons of the Revolution.
Hubert’s first love and commitment was to his family. He met his eternal companion, Dixine Davis, while he was attending the University of Utah. They were sealed together for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake temple. He has five wonderful children who are attempting to emulate his example. He spent most of his free time dedicated to helping his family. In later years he was heavily involved and successful at researching his ancestors.
Hubert was always committed to serving his Heavenly Father faithfully. His service ranged from being an altar boy as a child to serving in the temple as an ordinance worker in his later years. Hubert was always looking for ways to serve Heavenly Father’s children. Other church service included being a bishop, faithful home teacher, and honorable friend.
Hubert’s life has been a legacy for his family and all those who have been touched by him. As the patriarch of his family, his heritage has left a foundation for Hubert’s posterity to learn and grow from.
