Heidi Ruth (Duffin) Johnson, born September 24, 1978 to James Gates and Linda Rae (Farmer) Duffin, passed from this life October 5, 2017 at her home in Lehi, Utah. She was preceded in death by her mother, Linda Duffin. She is survived by her husband, Anthony, and 3 beautiful children—Austin, Ruth, and Summer; her father Jim [Jan] Duffin; and sisters Heather [Jeremy] Marx, and Debbie [Tarl] Lambson.
Heidi met and married her best friend, Anthony, at BYU while completing a Master’s Degree in Computer Science. Anthony was Heidi’s rock and ardent supporter. Heidi loved being a mom! Her children were her greatest treasure.
Heidi’s mom gave her a love for all things Star Trek, which she passed along to her family, who often gathered to watch TV episodes. Heidi grew up in California, and her family often joked that they were sprinkled with Disneyland pixie dust that never wore off. Disneyland was a favorite and frequent family outing. Heidi also loved traveling, music, and the color orange. She was smart, competitive, and inquisitive. Heidi had a great way with words and wanted one day to be published; and, indeed, one of her short stories will be published in an upcoming version of Chicken Soup for the Soul. Heidi was employed as a software developer before starting her family. She enjoyed serving her LDS Church as Relief Society President, Compassionate Service Leader, and Teacher; and as den mother. If anyone was up for a game, they could count on Heidi; she was a game master. She was also the one to go to for a deep discussion. She gave great advice, loved deeply, and accepted others for who they were.
Heidi set a great example of faith and perseverance for all of us through her 5-year cancer battle. In a blog post she stated, “When I choose to embrace faith, my emotions are full of empowerment, enjoyment, determination, and gratitude.” We can’t wait to be reunited. We love you Heidi.
