Hector Keith Lafleur

November 30, 1925 — December 20, 2016

Hector Keith Lafleur has returned to his Father in Heaven, his wife of 69 years, his son Richard, and beloved family members who have gone on before. He passed away peacefully in Salt Lake City, Utah the afternoon of December 20, 2016.
Keith was born on November 30, 1925, in Los Angeles, California to Hector Augustin Lafleur and Isabella Barr McLaren. He was the second of two sons.
He met the love of his life, Barbara McDonough Smith, while attending the University of Utah on a football scholarship. They were married on June 20, 1947. For the first part of their marriage Keith and Barbara lived with his parents in Los Angeles. As he came to work for Mountain Bell, they moved to their own place in Salt Lake City.
Keith traveled with his career from Los Angeles, to Salt Lake City, to Ogden Utah, to Denver, Colorado, to New Jersey, back to Denver and then to Phoenix, Arizona. He advanced in his career and became an executive at AT&T in Marketing. One of the highpoints of his life was being a Scoutmaster in Phoenix which built a large library of stories he shared with the family.
Keith was determined to retire by the age of 55 and succeeded in doing so. He and Barbara retired in Denver, Colorado and lived there until Barbara’s Alzheimer’s disease advanced and they moved to Herndon, Virginia to live with their son Steven and family in December 2005. Barbara passed away on November 21, 2007. Keith continued to live with Steven and his family until finally moving to the Legacy House Assisted Living Center where he stayed for only ten days before peacefully passing.
Keith became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while attending school at the University of Utah due to the influence of faithful members on the football team and a girl he had met (Barbara). He accepted many callings and appointments in the church wherever he lived. He loved all his family and became a dedicated genealogist, leaving a trail of worn out computers in his years of research.
Keith and Barbara served a mission for the Church in Anchorage, Alaska. There they worked in the Mission President’s Office and came to love many of the other missionaries who served at that time. Keith still talked about these missionaries right up until his death.
The progeny of H. Keith Lafleur includes three children: Steven Keith Lafleur (married to Kay Kimball) of Herndon, Virginia; Richard Mark Lafleur, who passed away at the age of 19 on October 11, 1971, and Ronald Von Lafleur (married to Pamela Marso) of North Pole, Alaska.
Keith is the patriarch of 3 children, 5 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. All his children and grandchildren were married in the temple. His son Steven served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Montreal Canada, and his grandson Richard served a mission to New York City (Korean Speaking). Keith’s legacy is rich and will live on after him to bless innumerable lives.
