Sue Atencio

Haydee “SUE” Knowlton Atencio died November 15, 2015. She was born September 19, 1931 in SLC, UT to Clements A. Knowlton and Lucile Knowlton Brinkerhoff. Sue graduated from South High School and attended L.D.S. Business College. She married Dean Ellis and later divorced. She married Russell Cronk and later divorced. She married Dan Atencio on June 27, 1969 they were married for 45 years. Sue was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in St. George, UT and attended L.D.S. church services there as well. She served as Church Secretary in SLC at St John’s Lutheran Church for a number of years. She was employed with Equitable Life and Casualty Ins. Co In SLC for 32 years, Executive Secretary to Claims Manager before retiring to St. George. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lucile Brinkerhoff, her sister Diane Kellogg, Her beloved husband, Dan Atencio and 2 great-granddaughters, Madi and Marki. Sue was survived by 2 daughters, Kathy Feurino (Rick), Scottsdale, AZ and Suzanne Mathis, Sandy, UT. Eight grandchildren; Justin Spencer (Jessica), Phoenix, AZ; Chad Spencer (Amanda), Phoenix, AZ; J.D. Mathis (Heather), Scottsdale, AZ; Nic Mathis (Airyanne), US Navy; Tim Mathis (Brooke), Lehi, UT, Chandra Hoag (Mac), US Navy; Cassandra Eva (Ron), Sandy UT, and Emma Mathis, Sandy, UT. She was also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, Skylee, Lilly, Julian, Lucy, Brian, Josi, Tres, George, Ellouise, McGraw, and Sage, and also many nieces and nephews. Sue had many family members and friends and her favorite thing to do was to spend time with all of them. She also loved to cook, sew, travel, cross-stitch, do word searches, knit, crochet, play games, especially 2-Handed Gin and Scrabble. She also loved, loved, loved, to sit around the campfire roasting marshmallows and have sing-a-longs with her grandchildren while they played the guitar. She loved to take care of her home and her things. Among her favorite things were the several beautiful heirlooms that she created and her collections of bells, matchbooks, and most importantly her photos. Her family isn’t complete without Elvis; she has a large collection of his memorabilia.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah with a viewing to begin at 9:30 am. Interment to follow at Redwood Cemetery.
