MSG Harry Elliott Hadley, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on November 3, 2024, in Holbrook, Arizona, leaving a legacy of humor, resilience, and boundless love for nature. Born on June 22, 1940, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Harry was known for his hearty laugh, quick wit, and a penchant for delighting others with his humor. His signature greeting, “Hi, I’m Harry, H-A-I-R-Y,” set the tone for his joyful, unfiltered personality and endeared him to everyone he met.
Harry spent much of his life in the wild beauty of the Grand Canyon where he worked as a mule wrangler, a job that not only suited his love for mules but showcased his affinity for the great outdoors. Among his favorite places was Phantom Ranch, where he led countless tours to the bottom of the canyon. For Harry, these were not just excursions—they were opportunities to share his love of nature and the awe-inspiring landscapes that deeply resonated with him.
Harry was a former Utah Air National Guard member and a decorated Green Beret with the 19th Special Forces. He achieved the rank of Master Sergeant and retired honorably after nearly 22 years of combined service. He embodied a life of leadership, loyalty, and a great love for his country. His years of dedicated service instilled a profound sense of character and resiliency within him, which guided him throughout the rest of his life. His military career gifted him with enduring friendships and countless stories, including those of shenanigans.
Harry is survived by his cherished wife, Janet Hadley, and their loving family: daughter Amanda (Tom) Hildt; stepchildren Toby and Jodi Monaco and Zachary (Katie) Williams. He was a devoted grandfather to Isaac and Ella Hildt, Chandler and Carsen Monaco, Kayla, Makiah and Jadah Williams, and a proud great-grandfather to Jason, Sabrina, and Maverick Meredith. He also leaves behind his brother Kenny (Dorothy) Hadley.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Wilma Hadley, siblings Betty Earl, Phyllis Harris, and Christy Brown, as well as his stepdaughter Kristina Williams. Each of these relationships deeply influenced his life, and his family will hold their memories close as they honor his legacy.
A visitation to celebrate Harry’s life will be held on Monday, November 11, 2024, at Memorial Mountain View Mortuary in Cottonwood Heights, Utah, from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM, followed by a memorial service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
