Harry Cameron Russell

Harry Cameron Russell, 87, passed away peacefully at home on Friday evening, April 29, 2016.
He was born on October 22, 1928 in London, England of American parents, Dr. Ray McIntyre Russell and Inez Evelyn Cameron.  In 1939, Dr. and Mrs. Russell returned to the United States with their three children, Harry, his twin sister Jane, and sister Evelyn, making their home in Salt Lake City for 18 months; then Beverly Hills, California where he graduated from Beverly Hills High School; also one year at Santa Monica City College.  Later, received his Bachelor’s Degree from Brigham Young University.
Harry filled a mission (1948-50) to the Central States for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS).  On January 10, 1951 he married Nell Lorene McDonald in the Salt Lake LDS Temple (later divorced); two children Malcolm and Rebecca.
In July 1951, he was drafted into the United States Army; 17 months later being commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers, serving in the Korean War.  Later, 1st Lieutenant (10 years active and Reserve).
On August 12, 1960, he married Karen Anderson Fahey in the Los Angeles LDS Temple.  Karen’s children: Michael Byron Fahey, and adopted daughter, Susan Fahey Leigh, from a previous marriage.  Karen passed away May 8, 1993.
On August 13, 1994, he married Karen Tradup Chaffin in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Sandy, Utah.  Karen’s children: Jayna  Nielson, Brent Chaffin and Joel Chaffin.  Karen passed away February 15, 2014.
From his teen years living in Beverly Hills, he was often involved in radio, movies and theatre; later doing voice-overs for Disney, Covenant Recordings, Bonneville Productions; directed three musicals for Promised Valley Playhouse; produced “Saturday’s Warrior” (1976).
After returning from Korean War, he began studies at BYU in geology, and worked in the engineering department with Geneva Steel; later, worked in geological and mining business, minerals engineering, supervising drilling and mining properties; later, he started and owned a wholesale food distribution business for several years; after selling the food business, in 1969 he accepted a position with General Time (Westclox and Seth Thomas clocks) and for 32 years developed and expanded many new brands of watches, clocks, and jewelry for retail and wholesale outlets throughout the western states, and provided clocks for many school districts; his extensive product catalog knowledge and skills designing unique product displays earned 18 National Sales Industry Awards.
In his 70’s and into his 80’s, his love and gift for teaching and abilities to reach many youth age groups, opened another respected career experience as a Para educator (substitute teacher) throughout the Salt Lake City area school systems.
Active in the LDS Church, he served in many positions: Ward and Stake Sunday School presidencies; Elder’s president; Stake Seventies President; Stake Mission president; many stake missions; member activation programs; a Seventy in the LDS Church and faithful Home Teacher.  His favorite church activities were teaching Sunday School; holding seminars on scriptural subjects (LDS and other churches).  He authored many papers on doctrinal subjects, including commentaries on the Book of Daniel, and the Revelation of John.
Harry is survived by his twin sister Jane Russell Bowman (Joseph F Bowman); sister Evelyn Russell Terry; son Malcolm; daughter Rebecca Gilmore (Jack Jr): 5 grandsons and spouses, Justus (Danielle), Cameron (Jesika), Jack J (Morgan), Alek (Kiana), Lane (Cynthia); 1 granddaughter and spouse, Darcie Gonzales (Robert); and, 28 great grandchildren.
Karen Anderson Fahey family: Karen’s son Michael Byron Fahey (deceased January19, 2013); Annette, spouse; their daughter Jessica Fahey (Jeremy Martinez); Karen’s daughter Susan Leigh (adopted); her sons, Hollis Russell Hunt (Sininaad), Jacob Hunt, Cameron Hunt (Adriane); and their 8 children.
Karen Tradup Chaffin family: Karen’s daughter Jayna Nielson; her son Joseph Mark Nielson (Alia); her daughter Josalyn Nielson; Karen’s son Brent Chaffin (Kathleen); their daughters Mallory and Katrina; Karen’s son Joel Chaffin (Jennifer Flores).

Funeral Services, Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 11:30am, at Union Fort 3rd Ward chapel, 6710 South 1300 East, Midvale, Utah.  Friends may call at the Church from 9am to 11am before funeral services.
Interment: Memorial Redwood Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah.
