Harrold Richard Schulz

May 7, 1929 — August 14, 2019

Harrold Richard Schulz died Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at the age of 90 in American Fork, Utah. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Paul Alfred Schulz and Joanna Hildegard Seifert on May 7, 1929. Two years later his parents moved back to Chemnitz, Germany – during the depression – hoping to find work and because his mother was homesick. Work was scarce due to the depression and unbeknownst to them the war was about to break out in Germany.
Harrold’s early education was in German schools where he completed 8 years, which was all that was required by most European countries. On March 29,1943 two days after his completion and at age 13 he was separated from his family and put into a forced labor camp located in Poland. He would escape 19 months later as the war was coming to an end and his family would be reunited back in the United States, in 1949. (There will be a brief reading of Harrold’s autobiography at his services which will tell about what took place during this time.)
Harrold joined the United States Army in 1952 and served on active duty for 4 years until 1956, at which time an honorable discharge was awarded.
Harrold starting driving for City Lines in 1957 which was later taken over by Utah Transit Authority in 1964. He completed a total of 35 years in all. Most of those 35 years were spent  doing what he loved, which was driving the bus. However, he retired from management in 1992. He then went on to drive for LeBus where he really enjoyed doing the Wendover runs, sometimes longer trips to Vegas and other places. He was really admired by his passengers and always received lots of recognition up until he moved to St. George and fully retired.
He married the love of his life (Christine Koetje) on October 15, 1966, who took such good care of him till his death. Between their married years and courtship they spent just shy of 56 years together. Their marriage joined 6 children who loved him dearly.  We will never forget the Dad that no matter how much his memory failed him, his sense of humor never did. We laughed until he could no longer speak a word and that was only a week before he passed – Bless his heart!
Our Dad is survived by his beloved wife Christine Schulz. Children: Marian Jenny (Jim) Julian; Cindy Lee (Harold) Hurst; Jeanett Farivar Smokoff; Rodney Lyman (Heidi) Gavin; Lynn Richard (Pam) Schulz; Roy Harold (Merrilee) Schulz; Mathew (Diane) Spicer. Harrold leaves a legacy of 29 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren.
