Harold Raphael Sorenson, Jr.

March 7, 1953 — October 10, 2016

I began this life in the town of Emery with my mom and dad, Harold and Evelyn Sorenson, Sr. In my early years, I ran the fields and streets causing as much trouble as possible. My family moved to Salt Lake City where I started school and found a different life. After high school, I joined the Air Force and was stationed at Hill Air Force Base working on F-16 fighters. In August of 1975, I married Debra Ballstaedt. Four years later we moved to Heber and started our family. Two wonderful daughters came along, Brooke (Rusty) Dennis and Jessica Sorenson.
1981 brought my change from construction to coal mining in Emery County. I developed a great many friendships while working at the Wilberg, Cottonwood and Trail Mountain mines. Being a part of the Mine Rescue team, competing and responding to any call for help from the coal miner brotherhood, was incredibly important to me.
My passion of the outdoors and all shooting sports led me to share these experiences with my girls, teaching them the joys and challenges of hunting, fishing and true marksmanship. During the autumn months I could be found on the mountain with my best friend, Doug Shapiro, hunting elk and deer or in the fields of Emery and Ferron looking for the elusive pheasant.
On that upbeat note, I take my leave of this rollicking, revolving world. This sun, that moon, that walk around the White Mountain, that stroll to my “Sit Spot”, the memory of my children’s hands in mine. It’s a beautiful day, I’m happy to have been here.
There will be a grave side service on October 21, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Emery cemetery. My family will host a celebration in remembrance of my life’s journey on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at our home in Heber City (1730 E. Center Creek Dr.) from 12:00 to 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers please donate to a favored charity.
