Harold Duane Judd, 85, Beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 after a long and difficult battle with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer). His family was present. Harold was born on March 20, 1932 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Clarence V. and Sarah Smith Judd. Harold leaves behind a legacy of talent, hard work, service, a gentleman of humor and love.
Harold graduated from Fremont High School in 1950 in Los Angeles, California. Immediately following high school he was eligible for the draft. Harold did not want to be drafted in to the U.S. Army so before that could occur he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed on a landing ship in Korean Waters. Harold trained with the U.S. Navy and was part of the Beach Jumpers, Unit 1 (now known as the Navy Seals). After his honorable release from the U.S. Navy, Harold attended and later graduated from San Diego City College.
He married Lorraine Bailess Searle in 1953, later divorced. They adopted two children; Chantel Parker and Shaun Judd. On June 28, 1972, Harold married Colleen Blackhurst and remained together until her passing on August 9, 2000. They loved traveling, raising their family and retiring together. They both embraced being members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served many positions including in the Jordan River Temple for 13 years. After Colleen’s passing he would marry Charlene Gilbert for time in the Jordan River Temple on April 13, 2001. They served a LDS Mission together in St. George, Utah and enjoyed spending their time between Sandy and their home in St. George. He loved Charlene very much. Harold’s top concern when learning about his time left here on earth was the care and welfare of her.
Harold worked as a Tool and Die Engineer for Litton Systems. He retired in 1994. He went back to work at Litton following his retirement in a consultant role for a brief time.
Harold loved to fish. Anyone that knew him would probably remember this first. His love of being on the water was only second to his children and grandchildren. He loved them very much and left them a high standard to live up to. He also loved history, reading about it and discovering it through travel. If you had a minute, it certainly would be topic for conversation. Scouting was important to Harold and ranked closely with fishing. Many young men can contribute their Eagle Scout badge, in part, to Harold and his long service to the Boy Scouts of America.
Harold is survived by his wife, Charlene Judd, daughter Chantel Parker and son H. Shaun Judd (Kristen), three grandsons; Zacquary and Zaben Anton, London Chapman and three granddaughters; Morgan, Ashley and Jordan Judd. Five stepchildren; Bruce Gilbert (Mary Dawn), Grant Gilbert, Douglas Gilbert (Molly), LuAnn Gilbert Nelson (Richard) and Karen Gilbert Wach, great grandchildren and step grand/ great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother (Sarah), father (Clarence), stepfather (David Anderson), his wife Colleen Blackhurst Judd, and sister Arlene Judd Tyson.
