Gwila Conrad Despain, age 84, passed away on October 26, 2018 in Murray, Utah.
She was born June 8, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Earl and Dora Conrad. She grew up in Clear Creek, Utah with Cliff and Nita Bailey and later moved to Provo, Utah where she attended Provo High School. Gwila married Noel A. Nielsen on August 18, 1955 who passed away October 20, 1975. She later remarried Robert V. Despain on July 13, 1989. He passed away on May 3, 2008.
Gwila is survived by her two sons: Tony (Terry) Nielsen and Shane (Kelly) Nielsen; three step-daughters: Sheryll Madill, Rebecca Despain, and Susan (Gary Napel) Despain; one step-son: Eric (Karry) Despain; her sister: Loise Curry; twelve grandchildren: Dallas, Bailey, Lindsey, Kyle, Mary, Jim, Whitney, Tony, Chris, Shon, Jana, and Christopher; and several great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her true love, Robert Despain; her first husband, Noel A. Nielsen, Earl and Dora Conrad, Cliff and Nita Bailey, and her brother, Jay Bailey.
Mom was beauty, grace, charm, fun, kind, and above all, generous. She loved going to symphonies, plays, ballets, concerts, baseball and football games, and parties with her many friends and family, and especially her grandkids. Mom was quick with a smile and had the philosophy to live simply, laugh often, love deeply, drink margaritas and watch football! She never missed anyone’s birthday, anniversary, or special occasion with a hand-written card or note. Her favorite time of year was Christmas and if she knew you at all you would be sure to receive many well thought out presents that were beautifully wrapped and delivered. She was a woman to look up to, admire, and strive to emulate. Mom will be greatly missed, until we see you again.
A viewing is scheduled for Friday, November 2, 2018 from 12:00 to 2:00 OM at Mountain View Mortuary and Cemetery (3115 East 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights, Utah). Followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers. Please follow Gwila’s footsteps and donate to your favorite charity in her name.
