Gwen Reber Homer

Gwen Reber Homer was born in Bunkerville, Nevada, September 20th or 23rd 1933. (She only found out 15 years ago when she ordered a new birth certificate that her birthday was actually the 23rd.) She was born to Leonard Reber and Daisy Ina Leavitt Reber. Raised in Mesquite, Nevada where she attended Virgin Valley High School. She also attended Dixie College, and graduated from Brigham Young University in Elementary Education. She later married the love of her life Edmund Lee Homer in the St. George Temple on May 15, 1954. Together they raised 6 amazing children and one golden child, who nursed until he was 5 (Ok maybe only 3). She went back to continue her education in her 30’s to finish her teaching degree. She taught school in the Jordan School District for 30 years.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she faithfully served for many years. One of her favorite callings was that of Camp Director at the age of 65. She had such an adventurous spirit and loved everyone. Later, she and Lee served a mission to Lagos, Nigeria from 1997 to 1998. One of the joys of her life was serving in the Jordan River Temple, where she loved serving others on both sides of the veil. Her favorite title was that of being called Grandma to 39 Grand Children, and 99 Great Grand Children. She had the ability to calm any baby, often being called the baby whisperer.
She loved life to the fullest. She loved her Dixie upbringing. Her heart never really left Mesquite. She loved her grandparents, many aunts and uncles and cousins and was so proud of her pioneer heritage. She loved her teaching career and helped many kids learn to read. She was ALWAYS barefoot even in the winter. She loved popcorn and cotton candy. And was masterful with a pound of hamburger. She could make a gourmet meal out of thin air.
She was always on the move. She wore her hands out in service to others. She demonstrated her faith by the way she lived. Her door was open to all, she was a friend to all and made everyone feel welcome.
She will be greatly missed but her legacy will live on. She is immortal in our eyes. She is our angel mother.
Survived by her husband, Lee Homer; her children, Richard (Lori), Robert (Rhonda), Diane (Jim) Pike, Debbie (Mike) Lord, Lisa (Dale) Cable, Ray (Julie), Randy (Angie); 39 Grandchildren, 99 great-grandchildren. She had 4 siblings that she adored. Nita Rae Hulet, Ina Wagner (deceased), Clark Reber, and Ken Reber.
A Viewing will be held Friday, August 28, 2020 from 5:00-8:00 pm at her church on 6770 S. 500 E. Midvale UT. Due to COVID-19, her funeral services will be limited to family only.
