Gretametcalf

June 21, 1937 — October 29, 2015

Greta Lee Metcalf, avid traveler, let her passport expire on October 29, 2015. She started her adventures on June 21, 1937, in Columbus, Ohio, born to Laura and Daniel Von Schriltz.
She spent her childhood on the family farm in Wellington, Utah. She married Clifford Metcalf on September 19, 1953 following a whirlwind romance. She joins her husband, parents, brother – David (Elaine) Olson, and sister – Elaine (Ray) Olsen.
Greta was a woman of many passions and talents. She worked as a real estate broker and traded pantyhose for potato chips and bread behind dumpsters while working for L’eggs. She finished her professional career at Southwest Airlines, then went on to volunteer at IMC hospital. Greta was an amazing artist, seamstress, cook, and beautician. She was a dedicated AA member even though she never touched a drink in her life. She loved yellow roses, Whitman chocolates, singing, popping her gum, her dog Gus, and daily trips to Walmart and McDonalds. Blessed with the ability to see the fun side of life, Greta’s adventurous nature kept those around her a little more light-hearted than they would otherwise have been. She was the glue that held her family and many other groups together. She will be remembered for the elaborate meals, parties, and picnics that she organized. She loved to bring people together for good conversation, friendship and food. We will remember her smile, her warmth, her energy, and her love for life.
Her spirit will live on in her children Susan (Scott), Tami, John (Cecilie); her grandchildren Jason (Jenn), Heather (Kai), Chris (Liz), Brock (Chantel), and TJ; her great grandchildren Jaydie, Colt, Nova, Case, and Zayden, and her sister Eileen (Bud) Blatnick, brother Allen (Pat) Olson, and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Beehive Care Center and Encompass Hospice for all their love and support as well as all of Greta’s friends who supported her on the last leg of her journey. The family will greet visitors from 6-8 pm Tuesday, November 3rd at Murray Memorial Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East. A celebration of her life will be Wednesday, November 4th at 11 am also at Murray Memorial Mortuary.
