Gregorita Sanchez

November 12, 1925 — February 6, 2017

Salt Lake City—Gregorita Sanchez passed away peacefully on February 6, 2017. She was born on November 12, 1925 to Onesimo Tafoya and Pelegrina Fresquez Martinez in Llano de San Juan, New Mexico. She met the love of her life, Delfino Sanchez, when he returned from World War II and they were married in August of 1947. She was always the perfect wife and mother, taking care of her husband until his death in 2009. Cooking and taking care of her family were always Gregorita’s greatest passion. She was always on the lookout for new recipes and great bargains. The children in the neighborhood used to line up for her delicious and warm tortillas while she happily continued to make more even as they were being devoured. Gregorita was a teacher in her young 20’s and always stressed the value of education to her children. She was a very talented needle crafter and crocheted, knitted and crafted many unique gifts for family, friends and charity. Gregorita was a devout Catholic and she and Delfino were active members of St. Francis Xavier, the Hispanic Society, and the Kearns Senior Center throughout the years. During the years since her husband passed away, she was still active with her children and grandchildren taking many trips including family reunions, weddings and camping excursions.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Delfino, and two siblings, Alfonso and Mabel. She is survived by her siblings, Conrado, Anselmo, Reynaldo and Edna, her children Becky Keating (Barry), Marcella Caywood (Brian), Jim Sanchez (Maureen), Robert Sanchez(Diane) and Ruben Sanchez(Karen), grandchildren Crystal, Julie, Patrick, Kevin and Kody and many nieces and nephews. Many thanks to all the caregivers who helped Gregorita over the years.
A viewing and rosary will be held on February 12 from 6-8 pm at St . Francis Xavier 4501W 5215 S. There will also be a Catholic mass February 13 at 1:00 pm at the church. Interment will follow at Redwood Cemetery, 6500 S Redwood Road. Friends may leave condolences by going to www.Memorialutah.com
