Grace Johnston Crockett

October 4, 1932 — August 27, 2021

Our sweet mom and grandma, Grace Johnston Crockett, passed away at her daughter’s home in Riverton on Friday, August 27, 2021. She was born October 4, 1932 in Teton, Idaho to James Martin and Myra Isabell Thompson Johnston. She met John Lorenzo Crockett in a Sunday school class that he was teaching and married him on January 30, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple. They went on their honeymoon to California and loved it so much, they came home, quit their jobs and moved there. They lived in California for 10 years and then moved back to Salt Lake. John and Grace raised 5 children.
As a girl, Grace loved horses, playing softball and hiking in the hills near Garland. She got her first job in 8th grade taking care of children for the Stohl family. She enjoyed the independence that working provided for her and continued on to have a career throughout her life. She was very good at balancing her professional life and her family. Her family was the joy of her life. She went to as many dance recitals, football games, lacrosse games, basketball games, birthday parties, baptisms, graduations as she possibly could. Every time family came to visit, she told them to stop by more often.
Grace had a testimony of Jesus Christ and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She always had faith that she would be reunited with John and we know that it has been a sweet reunion for the two of them. Grace enjoyed working in the primary, serving in Relief Society and had a special place in her heart for the youth and young adults, many of whom have remained lifelong friends.
Grace made friends easily. She talked to everyone and was genuinely interested in them. Over the years, she maintained those relationships. She was always up for a party, whether it was a birthday, shower, holiday or neighborhood get together. She wanted to be involved and help organize. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and only stayed up past 10 o’clock on New Year’s Eve.
John and Grace loved to travel. They traveled to Mexico, England, Brazil, Hawaii and Alaska. They spent a week every summer in Lake Powell, boating with family and friends. When they retired, they bought a trailer and traveled with Grace’s 2 sisters around the United States and Canada. They spent many winters in St. George where they made many friends and enjoyed the warm weather.

She is survived by her son, David (Brenda) Crockett; daughters, Reneé (Gary) Seegmiller, Diane (Bill) Martin, and Kimberly (Eric) Tuttle; daughter-in-law, Vicki Crockett; 17 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, eight siblings, her husband, John and her son Robert and a great granddaughter.

Her family and friends will truly miss this beautiful woman, her friendship and conversation. We are blessed by the knowledge that the covenants she made will bind us together forever.
