Grace A. Wallace

December 7, 1929 — September 7, 2017

Grace Anderson Wallace, our dearest mother and grandmother, passed away September 7, 2017, surrounded by her loved ones at her home in Cottonwood Heights, Utah.  She was born December 7, 1929 in Draper, Utah to Francis Levi and Florence Humphreys Anderson.  She married the love of her life,  Robert Sherman Wallace on September 23, 1950 in Vancouver, Washington.
She was a Jordan High graduate and a member of the LDS Church.  She worked as a school secretary for many years and really enjoyed all the kids she came in contact with.  After she left the school system, she became a successful Real Estate Agent, eventually becoming a Real Estate Broker for her own company, Catalina Properties, only retiring from the business when she was 80 years old.
When Grace and Bob got married, they lived in Astoria,WA while Bob was stationed there with the Navy during the Korean War. When their first child was a year old and Bob was discharged, she said they were moving back home to Utah, because Craig was a year old and had never seen the sun.  She was very close to her mother and siblings and had wonderful childhood memories of wandering the fields and playing with her siblings and cousins while they were growing up in Draper. She had an especially wonderful relationship with her younger brother Frank.
Mom was a one of a kind spit fire, independent, intelligent, and fiercely loyal woman.  Her family was everything to her, and if you needed help she would give you her last dime. During her years in real estate she became associated with a group of independent brokers and became lifelong friends with them.  They continued to watch out for one another and do birthday lunches together even as some of their tight knit group retired.
In a recent conversation with a granddaughter-in-law, when asked if she had any words of wisdom to pass on, she responded with “Be loving, forgiving, and work hard as hard work never hurts anybody”.  And boy did Grace know how to work hard.
She  dearly loved and enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She will be deeply missed.  She is survived by her son, R. Craig (Karen) Wallace, of Vancouver, WA, her daughter Shelley (Rod) Ylst of South Jordan, UT, 6 grandchildren;  Eric (Kate) Ylst, Annie (Jamie) Stagg, Shawn (Kristin) Wallace, Ryan Wallace, Emily (Billy Purden) Wallace, and Jennifer (Adam) Wilson, and 4 great grandchildren; Jake and Lily Ylst, Oaklee Stagg, and Cecelia Wallace. Preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband, grandson Brandon Ylst, sister Ruth Johnson, brothers Frank Anderson and Jack Wilkins.
