If there was ever a man who believed in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men, it was this man. Govert Copier was born March 1, 1920, In Nieuwkoop, Netherlands to Jan and Jannigje DeWith Copier. He died peacefully at his home on June 28, 2015, surrounded by his family and holding tightly to his dear Freddie’s hand. The American flag that he so proudly hung on the flagpole in his front yard, was immediately lowered to half mast. His “God Bless America” and orange “Hup Holland Hup” pillows on the couch remind us of his love for America and also for the Netherlands, the land where he was born and lived for 27 years.
He married the love of his life Frederika van der Wouden on March 29, 1945 in Leeuwarden, Netherlands. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on November 3, 1948 after immigrating to America. They recently celebrated his 95th birthday and their 70th Wedding Anniversary.
HIs great love for music was evident during his lasts days. While lying in his bed with his eyes closed, his hands waving in the air, he was comforted as he got lost in the feel and rhythm leading those heavenly hymns.
He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many positions over the years. His love for the gospel was evident in how he lived his life. He and Frederika served a mission to their homeland of the Netherlands in 1990
He wasn’t rich and famous by any worldly standards, but his family was his treasure, and by that measure, he truly was a rich man. He is survived by his wife, Frederika, his sons, John (Wanda), Fred (Judy), David (Pam) and Steve (Jane), his daughters, Jean (Gordon) Jolley, Marsha (Ron) Vandermyde, Sandy (Glenn) Neill, Shirley (Greg) Hill, Joyce, his brother Floris (Eva), brother in law, Joe Dicou, and sister in law Antonia Copier, 40 grandchildren and 60+ Great grandchildren.
