Our much-loved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on April 22, 2015 after a prolonged battle with prostate cancer.
Born May 17, 1935 to Francis Earl Tripp and Laura Lucille Malmstrom, he was the fourth of their five children. As a child, he was inquisitive and adventurous and loved animals. He always had a pet of some kind.
Through his father, Gordon learned trades which helped him become a skilled carpenter and builder. These talents blessed the lives of many family and friends. He also used these skills in his long career at Granite School District where he became a supervisor of physical facilities and new construction projects. He built two homes, and helped many family and friends remodel or add to their homes. He enjoyed the challenge and creativity involved in planning and executing a new project and he was no stranger to hard work.
As a young man, he married Patricia Ann Grane. They later divorced. They had five children: Debra Joyce (Gary) Dazley, Lisa Christine (Scott) Gudmundsen, Lori Dawn (Jared) Stucki, Tami Ann (Jim) Morton, and Jeffrey Gordon (Deene) Tripp. He was blessed with 15 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
In 1991 he married his sweetheart, Clara Beth Wagner Parker, and as a result, he was blessed with three step-children and their families: Carrie (Joe) Ruiz, Mark (Lisa) Parker, and Jill (Jim) Atkinson. Additionally, He was blessed with eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He and Beth enjoyed traveling, and after an early retirement, were able to visit various parts of the country and the world.
He and his brother Steve were introduced to hunting and fishing by his brother-in-law, Bill Nilsson. This became a favorite family tradition, which has come to include generations of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Annual pheasant hunting trips with his family in Salina, Utah were a favorite tradition of his.
Some of his most cherished memories were family activities; sporting events, dance and gymnastics competitions, musical and theatrical performances, and any other occasion he could find to spend time with his family. BYU football was a special family tradition. He also loved going to the family cabin at Laurel Pines in Big Cottonwood Canyon. He frequently spent time doing repairs at the cabin. He enjoyed sharing the cabin and the property with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.
He had many grandchildren: Justin (Rachael) Dazley, Lisa (Bradley) Bollwinkel, Heather (Christopher) Maile, Ashlie Gudmundsen, Trevor Gudmundsen, Mariko (Lance) Homer, Michael (Chelsie) Stucki, Danielle (Juan) Giron, Emi (Cory) Huntsman, Tyler Stucki, Jaymie Morton, Brandon (Ariel) Morton, Preston McPolin, MalohiTo’a Tripp, MaileHevani Tripp. He also has many great grandchildren, including Gordon Maile (named after Gordon Tripp) who will be born any day. We were hoping that Gordon would have been able to meet this great-grandchild here on Earth, but we feel that he was able to meet him once he passed.
He loved and continues to love his family. He gained a great appreciation for prayer and priesthood blessings, and he was grateful for the plan of salvation, which offers an opportunity for him to be together again with his family. He made everyone feel important. Many people who married into his family have said how he made them feel like they were always in the family. He was always active, even while facing health problems.
On April 22, 2015, after a prolonged battle with prostate cancer, he made the journey to be with his parents, his brother Earl DeWayne Tripp (who died serving in the WWII military when he was very young), his sisters, Fay Maurine and her husband, Bill Nilsson, Betty Joan and her husband Dave Marchant, and other beloved family members. Although this journey has separated him from loved ones on Earth, he still felt the deep love they have for him. This is a joyous reunion.
In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his brother, Stephen Lynn (Sheri) Tripp, many nieces and nephews, 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
We will love him dearly, and will miss him deeply.
