Gordon Peery Austin Jr

Gordon Peery Austin Jr, age 76, passed away on December 17, 2018 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born September 14, 1942 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Gordon Peery Sr and Marion Shurtliff Austin. He was married to Carol M. Pankow on August 25, 1966 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Peery grew up in Sugarhouse where he attended school graduating from Highland High School. He served a mission in Texas. After returning from his mission, he joined the Utah National Guard where he served for six years. He was sent to Fort Ord for special training, was a marks man, and trained as a radio operator. Held various positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and has resided in WVC for 50 years. He loved music and square dancing. He sang with Swanee Singers for several years. He also loved camping, was an avid bowler, and enjoyed conversations with people on his CB Radio.
Peery is survived by his loving wife, Carol, daughter Danielle (Dennis) Peterson, Daughter Amy (Troy) Firth, son Brye Austin, 16 grandchildren Brittany, Keith, Brandon, Shawn, Kara, Cody, Kristy, Bradley, Kylee, Meg, Derek, Halli, Braxton, Kenadi, Blake and Addi, 3 great-grandchildren Ryker, Luminara, and Remington. Two half-brothers, DeMeade (Diane) Austin, and Torry Austin, and half-sister Debbie (Philip) Blomquist, and many cousins.
Peery is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Friday, December 21, 2018 at 11:00 AM with a viewing one hour prior. There will also be a viewing Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the same location.
Peery will be missed by all who knew him.Service Information
