Gordon Gines

July 10, 1941 — August 15, 2020

1941 – 2020
Gordon Gines, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 15, 2020, following a short illness. He was 79.
Gordon is survived by his daughter, Lisa, and his son, Bryan (Joanna), and four grandchildren: Casey (Keshia), Auston, Max, and Jake, as well as his great-grandson, Knox.
Gordon was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan, his son Ken, and his granddaughter Ashley, as well as his parents and two brothers.
Gordon was born on July 10, 1941, to Robert Lee Gines and Wilma Woodard. He was raised in Francis, Utah, and proudly served as a boiler man in the United States Navy. Gordon frequently reminisced about his experiences in the Navy, which shaped and strengthened his character as a young man.
Gordon married Joan (“Joanie”) Broadhead on December 8, 1961, in Heber City, Utah following a whirlwind courtship. Gordon and Joan had three children, who they loved dearly.
Gordon and Joan ultimately settled with their family in West Jordan, Utah. Gordon worked hard throughout his life and retired from Burbidge Concrete Pumping at age 55. Gordon thoroughly enjoyed his retirement, spending many days with Joanie camping, fishing, boating, and socializing with friends. Gordon especially loved Sunday dinners with his family.
In recent years, Gordon pursued woodworking, and he spent many hours puttering in his backyard workshop, making things to share with family and friends, including beautifully crafted chairs and benches.
Gordon loved working in his urban garden. He was an enthusiastic gardener, and he loved to brag about having the first tomato of the season.
Gordon loved taking drives around the state: no matter what scenic drive you had been on, Gordon could tell you a story about an adventure he had also had in the area. It didn’t matter if it was a paved or gravel road- Gordon had likely been on it in a truck or motorhome.
Gordon was a storyteller. He had a million stories and he loved to tell them. If he wasn’t telling about pumping concrete in Park City or Snowbird, Gordon was telling you a fishing or camping story.
Gordon was a master at fixing things: if it didn’t work, he could get it working. He took pride in his problem solving skills, using simple solutions to get things working. Gordon could repair anything: a rusty water bath canner, leaky hoses- you name it, Gordon could fix it.
The Gines family wishes to thank everyone who visited, called, and showed support for Gordon over the last few years. Gordon would want you to know that he appreciated the concern, friendship, and love of everyone who reached out.
