Together Forever
Our loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Gloyd Dale Anderson, 96, passed away November 25, 2013 at home with his daughter by his side. Born June 17, 1917 in Fountain Green, Utah to Joseph and Katie Marie Jensen Anderson. Married Alice Johnson on November 18, 1946 in Elko, Nevada; later solemnized in the Manti Temple, June 17, 1954. Together, they raised 5 children in their home in Magna. Gloyd worked as a sheep-herder off and on through his younger years, then to the Thermoid Rubber Plant in Nephi. He moved his family to Magna in 1955 where he started working for Kennecott Copper Smelter as a welder, and retired after 28 years. He served his country during WWII as an Army Medic in the Pacific Theater. During his time in the Army, he served on Iwo Jima where he saw combat and the US flag being raised in victory. Gloyd enjoyed traveling, watching the Utah Jazz, gardening in his yard, fishing, hunting with his sons, and socializing at the Magna Senior Center group. He loved his animals, especially his cats and dogs. He freely gave his time in service to the church, working at church welfare farms, and fulfilling his church callings. He loved spending time with and playing with his grand and great-grandchildren, especially Jalen, who loved his “Grandpa Great”. Survived by his children, Dee (Cheryl), Joy (Bill) Christensen, Kent, William; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Alice; son, Gary; parents, and all of his siblings. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 3rd, 2:00 p.m. at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 So. Redwood Rd. with a viewing one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your favorite charity. The family also thanks Debra, Juan, Carlos, Tracy, and the staff at Harmony Home Health and Hospice for the loving care they gave to Gloyd. A special thanks to Joy, Kent, and Katie for your devoted care to Dad and Grand-dad.
