Gloria Van Dam

March 9, 1931 — June 3, 2014

Born March 9, 1931 in Glenwood, UT to Lillie Macklin Nielson and Adrain LeRoy Nielson. Gloria moved to Salt Lake City with her parents and two younger brothers in 1941, just prior to the beginning of WWII. She married the love of her life, Stephen Ralph Van Dam on August 19, 1952.
Gloria was a proud member of the Teamsters Union, working at IML Trucking for many years. One of Gloria’s greatest passions was her gardening, as her green thumb left a print everywhere she went. She also had a strong love and ability to connect with animals. But she couldn’t be more proud and have a stronger love for anything than her family. Gloria was also very strong willed and possessed a quick wit that that could put anybody in their place.
She was happily reunited with her husband Steve, two children, Stan Van Dam and Nancy Commagere, parents, and brother John K. Nielson.
Gloria is survived by her daughter-in-law Peggy Van Dam, one favorite granddaughter Angela (Sam) Walters, five favorite grandsons Brian Van Dam, Mark (Diem) Jacobson, Neil (Becky) Delaplaine, Justin (Christy) Delaplaine and Jason (Sharee) Delaplaine, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, two brothers Leroy M. (Carol) Nielson, Robert K. (Colleen) Nielson and one sister Kathleen (Mike) Lundquist.
A graveside service will be held June 9 at 11:00 am at the Murray Cemetery, 5490 S. Vine St, Murray, UT 84107. Following the service, a celebration of her life will be held at 5761 S. Wood Circle, Murray, UT 84107.
