Glenn Baldwin

June 2, 1929 — August 6, 2014

Glenn Smith Baldwin, age 85, died August 6, 2014, in Salt Lake City, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born to George Allen Baldwin Jr. and Esther Smith in Pocatello, Idaho, June 2, 1929. Glenn attended schools in Pocatello, Idaho, and graduated early from Pocatello High School so he could enlist in the Navy at the end of World War II. After an Honorable Discharge from the Navy, Glenn returned to Pocatello where he met and courted Lois Elaine Green. They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on November 10, 1948.
Glenn worked in different jobs early on in his married life, but found his life’s work as an Engineer with the IDT and later the UDOT. Glenn was always a motivated learner and accomplished a seemingly impossible task of becoming a Licensed Professional Civil Engineer, without having graduated from college. He retired from the UDOT after many years of service.
Glenn had many interests and was involved in Social Dancing, Scouting, Missionary Work, Bee Keeping, travel, and after his retirement, Square Dancing. He and Lois served as the National Square Dance Presidents and gained the bid for the 1991 National Square Dance Convention for Salt Lake City. Glenn and Lois travelled throughout the state of Utah to each of the square dance clubs and then travelled the United States extensively to publicize and recruit dancers and square dance clubs to attend the 1991 convention.
Glenn was a High Priest in the Cottonwood 12th Ward, and served in many capacities throughout his life including Aaronic Priesthood Leader, Scout Master, and temple ordinance worker. Glenn loved to explore and record genealogy. He became the go to guy for family when someone wanted to know the life story of some ancestor. He travelled the United States and Great Britain visiting graves, county court houses and other locations where more information could be found and recorded about those relatives and their rich and remarkable lives.
Glenn was very easy going, had a ready smile, loved the small children and loved his family very much. He will be missed.
Survived by the love of his life, wife, Lois Green Baldwin, 3 children, Rex G. Baldwin (JoLyn Schwendiman), Blake A. Baldwin, Glade E. Baldwin. He was preceded in death by his daughter Esther RoLayne Baldwin Ellis Martinez. He was blessed with 14 Grandchildren and 28 wonderful Great-Grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held in the Cottonwood 12th Ward, 1750 Spring Lane, SLC, UT on August 16, 2014, at 11 AM. Family and friends are invited to a viewing and meet family at the Cottonwood ward building 9:45-10:45 AM, just prior to the funeral service.
