Glendon Steiner, Jr.

Our amorous brother, husband, father and friend has lived a full life and returned to his Heavenly Father on April 30, 2014. One of the strongest loving and caring men we know… after a rollercoaster of health problems He fought the good fight and demonstrated a steadfast determination to overcome most any obstacle put in his way! He had an immense love for his family and wife and a passion for life. He loved meeting others and took a true interest in their lives. He was determined and focused on those things most important in life. He had many friends and associates and would want to bear a final testimony that the gospel message is true along with his love of the Savior.
He was born into a beautiful family on October 23, 1925 in Logan, Utah to Glendon Eugene and Eva Hawkes Steiner. As the eldest had three brothers along with four dear sisters. He was married to Jane Walker Steiner in 1952. Together they had six children and later divorced. Glendon then met his sweetheart Marlene Krantz who had two children. Glen and Marlene were married on October 24, 1968 and were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they had four more children for a total of twelve, “yours, mine, and ours.”
Glen spent his elementary years in Richfield and then moved to Mt. Pleasant where he spent three years at Wasatch Academy and later graduated from Spanish Fork High School as Senior Class President. He went into the U.S. Navy following high school to become an Officer where he was chosen for an elite V-12 Officers training program at Idaho State. He graduated from the program with honors. He then went to Chicago to attend Northwestern University for Midshipmen’s Training where he was commissioned as a Navy Officer. Dad focused on Radar and Director training where he helped to direct fighter planes to intercept the enemy towards the end of WWII.
In 1949, Glen was called on a two and a half year French Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in France (Paris, Lille and Marseille), as well as areas in Belgium and Switzerland. His musical talents served him well allowing him to create proselyting opportunities through playing his violin. He had respectable successes and planted many gospel seeds for future growth of the Church throughout the areas where he served. He loved the French language and continued to read, speak, and pray in French each day since his mission.
Upon returning from his mission, Glen graduated from the University of Utah with his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. He practiced in the Engineering field for a time while working for Westinghouse. Glen was a successful businessman. He was an entrepreneur at heart and ran many businesses ranging from selling insurance, owning and running several motels, purchasing/developing/selling land along with his business partner Robert Taylor. They started up and grew a successful long distance phone company “One-to-One Communications” for 15+ years. He held a dealer’s license and ran “Crest Cars” for over 40+ years buying and selling to associates, friends, and family. Glen had a deep love of cars and BMW’s in particular.
Glen had a passion and love for beautiful music. At age five he started playing the violin and never looked back… concerting with the “Baby Orchestra” in Richfield, Utah and others his love of the violin continued throughout his lifetime. His favorite times were playing duets with his wife Marlene for many church services, funerals, and stake musical productions.
Dad found much enjoyment and entertainment in a family “ambiance.” He loved each of his children and spent much time with them playing at Lake Powell, hiking and snow skiing in the Wasatch, horseback riding in the Uintah’s, attending the Utah Symphony and Opera as well as Hale Theater productions. Glen loved the creations of nature and loved planning different family trips and visiting different countries throughout the world.
He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he held numerous callings in Scouting, The Young Men’s Organization, Stake High Council and various High Priest assignments. He magnified each with love and diligence. He loved visiting the temple often and took many opportunities to bear testimony of his Savior and the gospel to his family and friends through word and example. He loved the Lord and always served conscientiously with kindness and charity.
He has claim to a great posterity and is survived by his brothers and sisters: Margene (Douglas) Goff, Marilyn (Frank) Hammond, Kenneth (Evangeline) Steiner, David (Mary) Steiner, Virginia (Armond) Beers, Gloria (Thomas) Paulsen, Darol (Phyllis) Krantz, sister-in-law Marilyn Krantz, his seven sons: Ron Steiner, Rick (Judy) Steiner, Randy (Laurie) Steiner, Brian Nielson, Jeff (Carmen) Steiner, Marlon (Susan) Steiner, Lauren (Michelle) Steiner, his four daughters, Giselle (Mark) Huber, Kathy (Brent) Anderson, Amy (Scott) Naylor, Emily (John) Burningham along with 42 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Proceeded in death by his father Glendon, mother Eva, brother Richard, son Daniel and wife Marlene.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 11am, in the Holladay 3rd Ward LDS Chapel, 4568 Holladay Blvd., Holladay, Utah. Friends and family are invited to attend a viewing in his honor on Sunday, May 4, 2014 from 6-8pm at the Holladay-Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 S Highland Dr., Holladay, Utah. Viewing and family prayer will also be held at the Ward chapel on Monday morning from 9:30-10:30 am prior to the funeral service. Interment will be at the Holladay Memorial Park at 2pm, 4900 Memory Lane, Holladay, Utah. The family wishes to express thanks and gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff at the Veteran’s Hospital, his hospice nurses and aides: Reena, Hal, Jenny, Deborah, Carrie, Jeanette, Michelle, Terri, and Maria.
