Glen W. Orvin

October 16, 1929 — January 3, 2019

The world recently lost a great man. Glen W Orvin passed away peacefully at home in St. George of natural causes on January 3, 2019. Glen led an extraordinary life and was always there for his family and friends. He was always generous and had a caring side to his rough exterior. At his request, and in keeping with his personality, no funeral services will be held. Glen was born on October 16, 1929 to Ed and Melva Orvin in Salt Lake City, Utah. He learned the value of hard work at an early age and became a skilled plasterer at the age of 18. Glen opened and operated Glen Orvin Construction, a successful plastering business. After 20 years in the industry, Glen became a very successful land developer and businessman. Glen joined the Army and served his Country admirably during the Korean War. He had numerous stories of his time in the Army, including his tale of the horribly long boat ride to Korea, with the high waves and long food lines.
Glen had a passion for golfing with his buddies and his long and straight swing led to a low handicap. He married his life-long friend and companion Lorrene Howard on April 23, 1953 and they spent the next 65 years together. Glen is survived by his wife Lorrene, three children Marsha (Kevin) Wells; Mindy (Steve) Riga, Michelle (Brian) Jeppesen, and son-in-law DeWayne Smith (Kathy). Also survived by 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother and 3 sisters, daughter Margi (DeWayne) Smith, son Glen (Joe) Orvin and granddaughter “Little Mindy” Riga. Glen provided for and helped raise an amazingly close knit and loving family. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. We also want to recognize and thank Mom for the incredible care she gave Dad. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Memorial Holladay Cemetery at 4900 South Memory Lane, Holladay, Utah 84117.
