Glen Hitoshi Furubayashi

June 3, 1955 — May 24, 2016

Glen Hitoshi Furubayashi – June 1955 – May 2016 – On May 24, 2016, the golf gods called Glen to the tee for his eternal round after a courageous battle with cancer. Glen was born in Salt Lake City to Masato Jack Furubayashi and Noriko Maxine Hirano.
Glen graduated from Granite High School in 1973.  During his junior high school years, when he wasn’t listening to Earth Wind & Fire he enjoyed playing bass for the “Road Agents,” especially when they won “Battle of the Bands.” Meeting when they were young teenagers, Glen and his wife Susan shared close to 47 years together, almost 37 in marriage.
Before retiring last summer, Glen worked 39½ years for the Union Pacific Railroad where he fostered many lifelong friendships. Shown by his long tenure, Glen was a punctual, loyal and hard worker who always put others ahead of himself.  Co-workers often recalled that there wasn’t a problem Glen couldn’t solve.  Glen also worked part-time at Mountain Dell Golf Course where he developed close bonds with everyone at the course.
Glen’s passion for golf led him to spend every free moment around the game, playing in almost any weather – sunshine, rain or even snow – and often playing until it was pitch black outside.  He played weekly with his “Sunday,” “Monday” and “Thursday” golf groups.  Glen was an amazing golfer who loved taking money from his close golfing buddies after shooting many low rounds.  Glen’s most memorable golfing moments include playing Pebble Beach, making 2 hole-in-ones at Bountiful Golf Course and a double eagle at Mountain Dell.
Glen loved being a father and spending time with his family, taking many fun trips to California, Las Vegas and Wendover.
Glen is survived by his wife, Susan; his beautiful daughters, Candice and Krista; his mother, Maxine; his sister, Sandy (Paul) Iwasaki; brothers, Mike (Connie) and Scott (Joy); his brother in-law David (Pam) Shiba; his aunt, Jean Ikemoto (Dan); and his nieces, nephews and cousins.  Glen is preceded in death by his father, Masato; and his in-laws, Bob and Saki Shiba.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at the Salt Lake Buddhist Temple, 211 W. 100 S.  Friends may visit with his family at the Buddhist Temple on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 from 6 to 8 pm and one hour prior to Glen’s funeral service on June 1st.  Reverend Jerry Hirano will officiate.  Funeral directors are Memorial Estates.  Condolences may be left at www.MemorialUtah.com.
Our hearts are broken and we miss you so much, but now you are at peace and playing the greatest round ever.  Hit them long and straight . . . Love, Susan, Candi and Krista.
