A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Gladys Maria Butler, was called home on January 11, 2025, at the age of 86. She leaves behind a legacy of love and service, survived by her seven children, 19 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren, with three more on the way.
Gladys was born in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, on October 8, 1938, to Pedro and Maria Lugo. She met and married, Gerald M. Butler, on December 12, 1958, in the Salt Lake Temple. Their union was a testament to faith and devotion, forming the foundation of a family deeply rooted in love and compassion.
Throughout her life, Gladys exemplified selflessness and kindness. Her home was always open, and it was not uncommon for her to invite strangers in for a warm, home-cooked meal. She had an extraordinary ability to sense when others were in need and was often the first to offer help. Gladys never gossiped or spoke ill of others; instead, she sought out and celebrated the goodness in everyone she met. A true peacemaker, she avoided conflict and fostered harmony wherever she went.
Those who knew Gladys were touched by her unwavering faith, boundless hope, and unconditional charity. Her life was a shining example of living with purpose and love.
Gladys is preceded in death by her parents, Maria Victoria and Pedro Lugo; her beloved husband, Gerald M. Butler; their cherished child, "Chucky"; and her brother, Pete. While she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love and service will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 12:30 PM at 12700 S. 1617 E., Draper, Utah. A viewing will be held two hours prior to the service. Interment will follow at Memorial Estates, 7800 S. 3115 E.
