Glade Willard Nielsen
“Generous Father and Friend”
Glade was born on March 18, 1932 to Genevieve Amanda Rasmussen and Willard Evans Nielsen in Bennett Utah. He passed away peacefully at The Lodge Hospice Care Center on February 25, 2017.
Dad served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He sent many wonderful letters, photos, and presents home to his sweetheart, Ruth Annette Cochran, during that time. They were married on June 24, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity.
Glade loved working for the Union Pacific Railroad. You could definitely say that trains ran through his blood. He retired as an electrical foreman. He passed on that love to his children especially his sons Craig and Brian who also have worked for the Union Pacific Railroad.
He loved the great outdoors. He served as a scout leader for many years and thoroughly enjoyed it. He loved especially camping, canoeing, and fishing. One of his favorite places to go with his family was the Omaha Fish and Wildlife Club where he owned a camper.
Mom and Dad served as Stake Missionaries at the Winter Quarters Cemetery Visitor Center. They truly enjoyed that time as tour guides and volunteers. They also enjoyed serving as ordinance workers at the Jordan River Temple.
Glade was known as the “Candy Man” at church, Dialysis, the hospital, and virtually everywhere he went. He liked to make life sweeter wherever he went. He truly enjoyed serving the people he came in contact with.
Dad truly loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His entire face would brighten up the moment that he got to see them, and he truly enjoyed spending time with them and spoiling them as much as possible.
He is survived by his wife- Ruth Annette Nielsen, children- Craig (Tawnya) Nielsen, Brian (Colleen) Nielsen, Laurie Nielsen, and Marci (Brad Olson), 9 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents- Genevieve Amanda Rasmussen and Willard Evans Nielsen and brother-in-law- Grant Ivie.
