Gisela Anita Margarete Kelm Uhlstein

Gisela Anita Margarete Kelm Uhlstein passed away aged 93 in Bountiful, UT on Sunday, September 5, 2021.
She was born on August 18, 1928 in Berlin, Germany to Anita Bertha Wolcke and Helmut Robert Engelhart Kelm.
She joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints when she was 16. Gisela was the last person baptized in East Germany before the missionaries were pulled out due to the construction of the Berlin Wall. She was called on February 25, 1953 to the Germany mission, where she met her Schatzi, Herbert Uhlstein, who was also serving there. Due to immigration efforts made by many on her behalf, she was transferred to the North Central States Mission, where she was released on March 21, 1955. Herbert followed her to the United States when her permanent immigration visa went through. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 16, 1955.
Gisela had a gift for teaching, which she used wherever she could. Just ask her grateful grandchildren. She studied at the Berlin University, BYU and the University of Utah, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts. She started her career as a student teacher at Skyline High School and then taught French for many years at Valley Junior High. She loved teaching junior high, especially the 8th Grade. That was her favorite age group. She is fondly remembered by her ward family for her insightful lessons. All of Gisela’s children are extremely grateful for the love this ward family gave to her during her time with them. They are extraordinary people.
Her many hobbies included puzzles, technology, lifelong learning, and enjoying the company of her Schatzi, family and many dear friends.
She is survived by her husband, Herbert; sons, Hyrum, Daniel (Robyn), and David (Manami); 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Gisela is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Wolfgang Kelm.
An Intimate Family Graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at 3:30 PM. Guests may begin logging in to the Zoom stream 10 minutes early.
She will be interred at Memorial Redwood Cemetery located at 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah.
