Gilbert M. Stevenson

May 20, 1929 — March 28, 2021

“Gib”
Gib was born May, 20th 1929 to Harry and Isawinda Stevenson. Gib passed away March 28, 2021 after living a full and happy life. He was raised in Salt Lake City, graduating from West High School and from the University of Utah with a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology. Gib served our country in the Korean War and served a mission to Denmark before becoming a teacher, principal, etc. in the Jordan School District.
Gib and Marilyn met on a blind date and were married in the Salt Lake Temple after his mission and before serving in the Army. They were able to travel and live in Germany for a year before raising a family of five sons and one daughter. They loved their children and were very proud of them.
Gib will be remembered for his great ability in playing the trumpet on many occasions. When he was in the Army, he was asked to play the trumpet with the U. S. Army Band but decided that was not what he wanted to do. He was also a good golfer (even getting a hole in one) and played tennis into his 80’s. He enjoyed serving faithfully in many Church callings. Especially as Host Chairman for six years at The Conference Center and two years at the Jordan River Temple.
Gib and Marilyn were walkers – first with kids in strollers and then hand in hand almost every day. Their cabin in Midway and homes were always filled with love, joy and music. Their “home with a view” brought much peace and contentment. Gib is survived by five sons, Cliff, Rick (Kari), Cory (Lynne), Ron, Mark (Deanna). Preceded in death by his wife Marilyn, daughter Wendi (Rob). He loved them all. Also preceded in death by sisters, Clara and Nancy and brother, Robert. He had 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
At Gib’s request, there will be a family graveside service and burial at Memorial Estates, Mountain View Cemetery in Cottonwood Heights at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 31, 2021.
