Gil Dennis Baker

July 5, 1944 — February 8, 2020

Gil Dennis Baker returned to his Heavenly Home on February 8, 2020, after a battle with cancer. He was born on July 5, 1944, to Harry Douglas Baker and Grace Helen Tullius. He was the second of four children and the only boy.
Gil graduated from Olympus High School in 1962 and enlisted in the Air Force National Guard in 1963. After attending Boot Camp in San Antonio, Texas, he went to a specialty school in Montgomery, Alabama where he was trained as a Radiology Technician. Gil served a mission in Scotland for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1964-1966. When Gil returned from his mission, he was part of the 151st United States Air Force Clinic in the Utah Air National Guard. He was
later activated during Operation Desert Storm. He served a total of 39 years before being honorably discharged at the rank of Master Sergeant.
Gil married Janice Helen Keiser, the love of his life, for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on June 26, 1967. They were blessed to welcome into their lives 8 children – 7 girls and 1 boy. He felt his children were his greatest accomplishment; his pride and joy.
Gil worked for General Electric Supply Company for 16 years. For the next 29 years, he worked for the Utah State Tax  Commission. When he retired, he enjoyed wood carving, drafting ideas, supporting his many grandchildren’s endeavors and spending quality time with his family. Gil was blessed with a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor that he shared with all who knew him, especially his family. Even during his final hours, he was making everyone laugh. He also had a way with words and was blessed with the talent and ability to express himself through writing. Gil loved his Heavenly Father and served in
many callings in his ward and stake. One of his favorite most recent callings was serving in the Draper Temple baptistry for 6 years.
Gil is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janice, his eight children: Heidi (Bret) Thomas, KaeLynn (Clark) Hansen, Kim Baker, Shannon (Scott) Wenerstrom, Mindie (Bryan) Klingler, Lindsey (Joseph) Baird, Tanya (Rich) Summers and Justin (Marci Pratt) Baker, his 27 grandchildren, and his sisters: Vicki Newmeyer, Robyn Newman, and Jodi Bowles. Gil is preceded in death by his parents Harry and Grace Baker and granddaughter Adreanna Hansen.
Funeral Services, to honor Gil’s life, will be held on Saturday, February 15, at 11:00 AM, at the Sandy Utah Alta View Stake Center. A viewing will be held Friday evening, February 14th, from 6:00-8:00 PM and 9:30-10:30 AM before the funeral services at the Stake Center. Interment will follow at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery, 3115 E. 7800 S. Cottonwood Heights, Utah 84121.
