Our loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Gerri Grimmett Davis, peacefully passed away on July 5, 2022, at the age of 94. She was born in Coronach, Saskatchewan, Canada, on August 12, 1927, with her twin sister, Jackie, to Robert Ernest Shiell and Eunice Felker Shiell. She had an older brother, Arlou. At age 10 she migrated with her family to Northern Idaho because of the Depression and the Dust Bowl. She attended the University of Idaho where she met her first husband, John Orson Grimmett. They married on September 1, 1948. Together they had four children, Nancy, Julie, Susan and Doug. They raised their family in Salt Lake City.
Her second marriage was to Donald H. Davis in the Jordan River Temple on June 12, 1982. They enjoyed 30 years together and she inherited an additional eight children and many more grandchildren through her marriage to Don.
Her family was her most prized and loved possession and she enjoyed many family gatherings, activities, holidays and traveling with them. She worked many years for the Salt Lake County Flood Control Department as a secretary. She loved cooking, sewing and being a Mother and homemaker and was proud to become a U.S. Citizen. She enjoyed going to Broadway plays, symphonies and ballets. She and Don opened up their home to visitors and family who were always welcome there. She was a woman of integrity, friendly, happy and very pleasant to be around up to her dying day. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with a strong testimony, seeing many miracles in her life! She made friends easily and was a friend to all and a beloved Mother and Grandmother!
She is survived by 4 children: Nancy (Scott) Ballard, Julie Beckstrand, Susan (Jim) Johnson, Doug (Kathy) Grimmett; 14 Grandchildren, 32 Great Grandchildren. By marriage to Don, she inherited 8 additional children and many more grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald H. Davis; Joe and Jolene Davis; her twin sister Jackie and Don Dahle; and her brother, Arlou and Wilma Shiell.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Chapel at 2895 Creek Road, Cottonwood Heights, Utah. A viewing will be held at the Mountain View Memorial, 3115 E. 7800 S., Cottonwood Heights, Utah, on Friday, July 15, 2022, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., with another viewing prior to funeral services from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery, 200 N. Street, Salt Lake City,UtahService Information
