Geraldine, “Gerry” Smith passed away on February 22, 2015, just three days short of her 88th birthday, in Parker, Colorado. She was residing in the home of her daughter Leslie and son-in-law John, who provided devoted, loving care for her for many years.
Gerry was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Albert Taylor McBeth and Madonna (Donna) Bingham. She spent her early childhood years in Salt Lake City. In 1937, her family moved to her grandparents’ farm in Payson, Utah. She finished grade school, junior high, and high school. Gerry moved to Salt Lake City and took a job with International Harvester as a switchboard operator. She worked there with her Aunt Jean from 1945 until 1952. She later worked in Customer Service at Sears in Buena Park, California from 1966 to 1980.
Gerry married Wayne J Smith on November 23, 1947. They were married for 55 years until his passing in January 2003.
Gerry was taught by her mother how to sew and embroider and she excelled at both. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed tending to her rose garden and raspberry patches. She was a great cook. She always maintained a beautiful and orderly home. She and Wayne utilized their many and various talents to create a nice home for their family. She enjoyed taking pictures of her children and grandchildren, keeping an album for each child hoping they would appreciate them in the years to come. It was also important to remember everyone on their birthday and special occasions.
She is survived by: brothers – Ray McBeth and Dennis McBeth, son – Kelly Wayne Smith and his wife Susan, daughter – Leslie Smith Garcia and husband John, daughter – Kathleen Mehner and her husband Drew, daughter – Melanie Lewis and her husband Rich, eighteen grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
She is preceeded in death by her husband Wayne J Smith, parents – Albert Taylor and Madonna Bingham McBeth, and brother Max McBeth.
A memorial service honoring her life will be at Mountain View Memorial in Cottonwood Heights, 3115 East 7800 South, on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 10:30.
Interment will follow the memorial services at Mountain View Cemetery.
