Georgia Riley Tripp

June 4, 1918 — October 15, 2020

Georgia Riley Tripp (Granny) left this life on October 15, 2020, in her daughter’s home in West Valley City, Utah, at the age of 102. She was strong through the end, but her body could no longer hold her feisty spirit. Though only a handful of her large family were present, they were all with her as she left us.
Georgia was born on June 4th, 1918 in Murray, Utah to John Tsiazis (Davis) and Verna Peterson, where she lived most of her life. At the age of two, her mother passed away shortly after the birth of her brother, Christian Glavas. After her mother’s death, Georgia was adopted into the family of Magdalena Riley and Alice Harmon.
On June 30, 1938, Georgia married Wallace Tripp in Murray and together they had eleven children. She was above all a homemaker, wife, and mother, raising her children in a small house on a farm. Wallace passed away in 1981, and Georgia spent the remainder of her life widowed. However, she was always surrounded by her children, grandchildren, hosting and attending family parties, holidays, and barbeques.
Georgia loved flowers and gardening, and for a time kept “Granny’s Greenhouse” on her property in Murray. Other hobbies included crocheting, word puzzles, game shows, and reading. She watched many sports and was an avid fan of the Utah Jazz. She loved to travel, whether that was to London and Paris for her 80th birthday, Hawaii, multiple cruises, or just camping. Family road trips were a favorite, and she wasn’t about to be left behind, even in her 90s. She was always a lucky lady, enjoying trips to Wendover and card games with her family. Many nights and afternoons (often camping as much as at home) were spent playing card games and dominos with family members, laughing and being together. She attended bingo regularly at the Murray Recreational Senior Center through the beginning of 2020 and was a familiar face to many there.
Granny also had a sweet tooth. She loved candies, cookies, and goodies, but also loved to gift them to others. She always had candy sitting in a dish for her children, grandchildren, visitors, and those that helped care for her. Treats were offered when you entered, and large, strong hugs when you left her. She always made sure to say “I love you” at least a few times before you made it out the door.
Georgia always wanted to reach 100 and was very proud of her age. Even in her last days, she would tell everyone she was 102 ½. She was part of Utah’s Centenarian club and was honored to attend their banquet every year. But even there she would say her greatest accomplishment was “raising eleven wonderful kids”.
At age 101 one of the biggest mysteries of Georgia’s life was solved when she got to meet her sister, Rose for the first time. Rose shared stories of their father and Georgia got to meet another large part of her family she never knew. She cherished the short time they had together.
Georgia is survived by children; Kenneth Tripp, Maxine Chatwin (Melvin), Margaret McBride, Donald Tripp (Sharon), Jean Covington (Lynn), Sharon Zupan, Robert Tripp (Dian), Vicky Lyman (James), and Larry Tripp (Teresa), 27 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, her sister; Rose and her family
She is preceded in death by her loving husband Wallace Tripp, her parents; John Davis and Verna Peterson, her mother; Magdalena Riley, her sister; Alice Harmon, her brothers; Christian Galavas and George Davis, her sons; Leonard and Steven Tripp, her grandson; Michael Tripp, her Daughter in Law; Bonnie, and Son in Laws; James Zupan and William McBride.
