Georgette Proestakis
09/20/1968 – 10/01/2014
Most obituaries are about the individual and their accomplishments; school, work, etc. My obituary is about the people who helped me achieve my accomplishments and helped form the person I became. My dad, Nick Proestakis, taught me the importance of hard work, integrity, and being proud of who you are regardless of your circumstances in life. My mom, Athena Proestakis, taught me the importance of family and hospitality. She gave me the ability to host fabulous gatherings where there was plenty of food, drink, and laughter. My brother, Alex Proestakis, taught me how to be a dreamer. Having big dreams gives you hope. My sister, MaryAnn Proestakis, taught me selflessness and how to have a giving heart. She is the kind of person who would do nearly anything for anyone and not ask for anything in return. My nieces, Danielle, Nichole, and Andrea taught me strength and perseverance. If you stick together, you can get through even the most difficult times. My step-daughter, Andrea Jacobsen, taught me honesty and friendship and how important it is to have one in order to have the other.
I learned a great deal from these people, but the person I learned the most from is my husband, Vaughn. Vaughn taught me about unconditional love, faith, hope and that if we work together and communicate, we can achieve what we desire. Vaughn was my strength from the day I met him until my last breath. He was my rock and my support in both good times and tough times. He was my biggest cheerleader and loved me in a way no other could. He truly was my best and life-long friend as our paths had crossed many times before we actually met. My life was far better with Vaughn in it.
To each person I mentioned I say thank you, for without you in my life, I wouldn’t have become the person I was. I love you all very much and will miss each of you more than you know. To Vaughn, words cannot describe how very much I love you. I will always be by your side watching over you.
