“Every wonderful, delightful thrill, experience and emotion life has to offer has been mine. So, no sad tears for me, please.” – Merlin J. Romer
The most kind-hearted man ever known – our much loved and adoring father, grandfather (Papa), great-grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, and dear friend – rejoined the love of his life on Sept. 18, 2018. He was 89 years young but succumbed to causes incident to age.
George Mark Vander Meyden was born at home in Salt Lake City on March 3, 1929, into the family of Margaretha (Vreeken) and Gerrit Vander Meyden. He graduated from West High School in 1946. George and Jean (Newson) were married on May 21, 1949, and shared the next 62+ years and two wonderful children together.
George joined the Air Force in Nov. 1951 during the Korean War and was honored to serve. He proudly worked for Western Union for over 34 years as an electronics and communications technician. George and Jean loved to tend to their always beautiful home and yard, and visit with and care for extended family.
George was preceded in death by: his beloved Jean; his parents; all of his brothers and sisters – Bob, Howard, Beth, Thelma, Florence (infant), Letty, John, Louise, and Margaret; and by grandson Tony.
He will be missed by multitudes, but especially by: his children; Jeanne (Chuck) and Mark (Dianna); grandchildren Charles, Gina, Ashley, Nick, and Kate (Austin); and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many sisters- and brothers-in-law; and countless nieces, nephews and friends.
The family wishes to thank all of his many care givers and wonderful “family” and friends at Pacifica Senior Living Millcreek, as well as Christian and the staff at Comfort Worx Hospice for their compassionate care and friendship.
